Kristel Schneider, has conducted a photographic, conceptual and graphic quest around an ordinary subject, TREES. A subject so familiar that we often pass without really seeing it. For approximately 5 years she worked on this project that resulted in two exhibitions; VARIATIONS IN TREES & WITH TREES and her first published book - VARIATIONS IN TREES. It makes us discover the colours and subtle forms of the trees in her adopted Auvergne. Each image encourages the gaze to contemplation and the rhythm of the variations of nature. After VARIATIONS IN TREES, I was excited to explore a new subject. Strangely enough, my next project was right beside me the entire time, patiently waiting to be discovered. I am grateful that my adopted living area is such a rich source of inspiration for me. Every time I cross one of the local rivers and take a quick glance down, I am struck by its unique beauty. As usual, it was ‘the common’ that captured my interest. The river Allier, the lifeblood of the Auvergne landscape, stretching 425 km from South to North in the heart of France, became my latest inspiration. This series of photographs is the continuation of the residence that KRISTEL SCHNEIDER carried out in 2022 on the Grand Site de France Les Deux-Caps. “Artist in Residence programme”, which was set up by the French region Pas-de-Calais. The exhibition, entitled “DOUBLE VUE (DOUBLE VISION) “, showcases elements and areas of the ‘Grand Site de France Les Deux-Caps’, through photos taken in eight main areas along the coast. Where the artist normally seeks ‘pure nature’ in her work, she now decided to embrace the human elements in the area and combine them into some of her creations. During her visits, she constantly looked for combinations of multiple elements to work with. Weather, light, details and human interactions played an important part in that search. By focusing on her vision, she created a portrait of the area that is different from the traditional iconic shots you would normally see.
